At "Parade Rest"

Memorial Day 2009

Every military person knows the commander's order
of "Parade Rest," a time to stand at ease.
On this national holiday, parades will march across America in honor
of those who have given us their ultimate sacrifice.

Thanks to the Webeloes (a younger division of the Boy Scouts) from Davidson
and Williamson County who placed U.S. flags on the graves of 35,000
of America's finest at the National Military Cemetery in Nashville, TN.

Dressed in royal colors, the Iris reigns as Tennessee's state flower.

I snapped this photo this past weekend as I watched
the horrific dark clouds of an approaching storm
roll in to overtake
what had previously been a beautiful spring day.
As the two opposing forces met,
this brilliant blue opening appeared between them.

(So much could be said here, but sometimes a picture says it all.)

It's A Mystery

This is the most unusual sunset I have ever witnessed,

and I am actually at a loss to explain what created it.

The lengthy horizontal lines were obviously drawn by airplanes,

but the vertical image baffles me. Any ideas, folks?

Perky pansies, those hearty little flowers who
often make it through the winter when others don't,
dance merrily in an early spring breeze
in a basket hanging on my front porch.

(The chain belongs to my porch swing, who is also happy
to see spring arrive!)

With winter's onset, I have not seen my bluebird friends for many weeks and have been concerned that they had found a home elsewhere. This one's appearance outside my window today made me happy indeed.

This is my friend, Karen, who recently completed chemotherapy and requested that this photograph be used as a source of encouragement to others who face a major obstacle in their life. She is a tower of strength and a picture of courage under fire.

The emotional impact of her journey came to light, however, as my camera began to click and a tear rolled down her cheek. It was one of the most touching moments I have ever known and one that I will never forget. May we all recall Karen's example as we face our own battles. She is beautiful, both inside and out.
